This research project was conducted in 2021 with the support of the Black Writer’s Fellowship award from Hand Papermaking, Inc. As the inaugural research fellow, I investigated whether breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) - a plant in the same family as kozo and an important food source for Jamaicans - could be a viable source of papermaking fiber for the Caribbean. Using help from family, friends, and papermaking experts, I was able to make thirty sheets of paper (8.5 inches by 11 inches) and come up with questions for further investigation. The results of my research are published in the Summer 2022 issue of Hand Papermaking magazine.
